Alvaro Pereira omitted from FC Porto's UEFA Super Cup squad, move to Chelsea looms – Report
Uruguayan International Alvaro Pereira has been omitted from FC Porto’s UEFA Super Cup squad, and is edging ever closer to a big-money move to English Premier League giants, Chelsea.
The Portistas are set to take on reigning European champions, Barcelona, in the UEFA Super Cup, which takes place on August 26 at Stade Louis II. However, the Portuguese side are going to be without attacking left-back, Alvaro Pereira, who has been omitted
from the squad by the manager.
Pereira, 25, has been on the radar of top sides all summer and is going to leave Estadio do Dragao in the upcoming weeks, with Chelsea as his most probable destination.
The Blues have continually been linked with the Uruguayan and are poised to secure his services after fending off competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who had also been tracking the progress of the defender.
Chelsea recently upped their interest and have reportedly lodged an official bid with FC Porto for their coveted fullback. The Dragons were initially not keen on letting the former CFR Cluj man part ways with the club, however, the player himself has insisted
on a switch to Stamford Bridge, where the officials are only too glad to hire him.
Although a move is imminent, Pereira will not come cheap by any means and has a price tag of a whopping €30 million, a princely sum which Roman Abramovich will easily be able to cough up given his considerable financial muscle.
If the move goes through, FC Porto manager Vitor Pereira will be woefully short of options and will have to rely on new-signing Alex Sandro to fill the left-back role. But the Brazilian is quite inexperienced and could be a gamble by the Portuguese tactician.
While the Dragao have the likes of Hulk, Fredy Guarin and Rolando in their ranks, they stand little chance against the mighty Catalans without an influential player such as Alvaro Pereira, who will have most likely played his last game for the club over
