Adam Voges returns to Nottinghamshire – Cricket News Update

Former Australian top order batsman, Adam Voges has agreed to return to Trent Bridge, as Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club’s overseas player for the 2012 season.

The 32-year-old Western Australian batsman will be available from the start of the season, and will represent the club in three tournaments - County Championship, Clydesdale Bank 40 tournament and the Friends Life T20 tournament.

The right-handed top order batsman has played for the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club since 2008. He played a key role in club’s County Championship win in 2010. In the last four seasons, Voges has compiled more than 4,500 county runs across all three formats of the game.

He has also played 15 One Day Internationals for Australia scoring 392 runs at an average of 43.50, including two half centuries. He has not played a single One Day International for Australia in the last 12 months. His last international appearance was against England at Perth on February 6, 2011.

In the shortest format of the game at the international level, the Western Australia batsman has scored 63 runs in four appearances at an average of 31.50. He has not featured in a T20 International since August 30, 2009.

Last season Voges was joined by compatriot David Hussey at Trent Bridge, but there will be no Hussey for Notts this time around, as he will be busy in national assignments abroad. Australia is scheduled to tour the West Indies in April, England in June, before playing Pakistan in August later this year.

The Nottinghamshire management had also approached veteran India batsman VVS Laxman but he is suited more for first class matches and the club was keen to secure a foreign player who could play for them in all three formats of the game. Laxman has never featured in the T20 format of the game; hence Notts went for Voges again.

The signing has not been concluded officially and is likely to be done during the county’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled to be held on February 27.

The county will also be without the likes of Darren Pattinson, as the pacer is nursing a stress fracture in his back.
