AC Milan secure the services of Ajax left back Urby Emanuelson

Italian giants AC Milan have secured the services of Ajax left back Urby Emanuelson, as confirmed by the club’s official website.

The player has signed a 3-and-a-half year contract with the club, keeping him at San Siro till June 2014. The player was absolutely delighted to have signed the contract with the Italian club and labelled the move to be a dream come true for his career.

The player has the ability to play in any position on the left-hand side but Milan are likely to use him as a left back. Emanuelson’s true position is left wingback, which points towards possible strengths in attack, while weaknesses in defence. The left winger was a vital member of the Ajax side and has managed 192 appearances already in his 7 years at the club. This means that the player has been playing since he was very young and has not made less than 35 appearances since he was 19. These are extraordinary statistics for a player playing for a club like Ajax and Urby has the makings of becoming a top player for a club like AC Milan.

Urby becomes the second signing of the winter transfer window this season, the first being the ever-controversial Antonio Cassano, who joined Milan from Sampdoria on the first day of the transfer window.

The 24-year-old’s inclusion was necessary for Milan, as the side are without the services of Gianluca Zambrotta for longer than expected. AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri tried to play Luca Antonini in that position, but that decision backfired and the coach had to go shopping. AC Milan were after the services of other left backs as well, which included the likes of Reto Ziegler of Sampdoria and Domenico Criscito from Genoa. However, the manager fancied the Dutch International and he would be used for his pace and dribbling skill on the left-hand side. Urby just loves to go forward and already has 19 goals to his name in all competitions. Many believe that Urby would come in handy to stop the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon of Tottenham Hotspur, a side they face in the Champions League next month. Both the mentioned players are too fast for anyone’s liking and have to be stopped to give Milan any chance of going through into the quarterfinals.
