480m action excites racing fans at Hall Green

Racing fans were left on the edges of their seats at Hall Green Stadium this morning, as the day’s 12-race card made for some thrilling moments and held a few unexpected wins.

The racing got off to a great start with an A6 race held at 11:03. Before the race, the odds makers staked Rathvilly John as the favourite to win on 5-2 odds, but it wasn’t meant to be. Clonlusk Oscar, a 10-1 long shot, swept in and claimed the victory, finishing in 29.58. During his run, Clonlusk Oscar moved slowly away from the pack, and held a steady pace to earn the win.

Louis The Pig (4-1) finished in second with 29.62, which was only a ½ length behind the winner. He moved slowly away from the pack at first, but was eventually overtaken by Clonlusk Oscar. Favourite Rathvilly John earned third place, ¾ lengths behind second with 29.68. First place was out of reach for him after he challenged first and bumped second. Best Code (3-1) finished fourth with a time of 29.76, 1 length behind third. The bottom two spots went to Lakers Dave (fifth place, 4-1), who finished a head behind Best Code in 29.77, and Sparta Trump (sixth place, 4-1), whose time of 29.99 was 2¾ lengths out of fifth place.

The A5 race at 11:19 was not an easy one for Easy Go. He was ranked as the 7-4 favourite before this race, but failed to crack the top three with a disappointing fifth-place result. Steeple Rd Doc (3-1) was the race winner, finishing first in 29.63. He held an early pace out of trap four despite some bumping. Taking second position by a head was Avalon Hill (12-1), who finished the race in 29.64. He lacked an early pace, but ran on to claim the number two spot. Jabitoutjoe (9-2) earned third place in 29.65. He missed second place by just a head’s length. Expelliarmous (3-1) took fourth in 29.71, ¾ lengths behind Jabitoutjoe. Easy Go, the pre-race favourite, came in fifth, finishing in 29.77, which was ¾ lengths out of fourth. Last place went to Brooklyn Tom (6-1), whose 29.83 finish put him ¾ lengths behind Easy Go.

Avaheen Kingdom was predicted to win the A6 race at 11:34, but the 2-1 favourite finished second with a time of 29.44. This was just a ½ length behind Kayjayen (3-1), who won the race in 29.40. He challenged early in the middle, and led near the finish line to earn the victory. 3 ¼ lengths behind second place was His Boy (9-2), who completed the race in 29.70. Sarahs Gold (6-1) finished in fourth place, a single length behind His Boy in 29.78. Soda Girl (4-1) finished in fifth-place with 29.90, 1½ lengths behind fourth. Last place went to Carries Joe (6-1), whose finishing time of 30.02 could not carry him to a win. He finished 1 ½ lengths out of the fifth position.

Hall Green Stadium will host another exciting greyhound racing card on Friday, September 3. The first race is scheduled to begin at 19:30.
