2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters competition; Andy Murray reaches the third round

The top ranked Brit, Andy Murray got past Bai Yan, a wild card entrant from China to advance into the third round of the 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters competition in a two setter clash on Wednesday. The final match score was 6-2, 6-2.

Bai surprised everyone by winning his opening round match after beating Radek Stepanek in two sets at Shanghai. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4. However, the world number 465 never really had a chance to repeat his performance against Murray in his match today. The fourth ranked Murray was playing in his first match of the tournament after receiving a first round bye in Shanghai.

The Scott, as a result of this victory will next take on Jeremy Chardy of France. Jermey made his way into the third round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters after thrashing out Alexandr Dolgopolov in three sets. The final match score was 6-1 5-7 6-2.

Murray, when commenting on his next round’s opponent said, “I will try and play similar to today. I will try and dictate the points when I get into the rallies, he likes to use his forehand a lot so I will try and keep it away from the middle of the court and see what happen."

In other action, the world number two Novak Djokovic of Serbia who recently won the 2010 China Open in Beijing last week, also toppled Ivan Ljubicic in two sets on Wednesday. The final match score was 6-3 6-3.

The Brit throughout his match today smashed the ball quite confidently and played impressively to begin his tournament campaign in Shanghai. Moreover, he also didn’t commit too many mistakes against the Chinese.

The twenty three year old Murray explained that the clash was another step towards improving his fitness level.

"I have been sick a couple of times since the United States Open so I need to get more match fit and to spend more time on the court. You lose strength if you are ill and not training, I will hopefully spend more time on the court. Today was a good start."
