120,000 rooms available due to LOCOG cancellations – London Olympics 2012
It has been recently revealed that the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games is cancelling a total of 120,000 hotel reservations that it had made in order to accommodate the members of the media, sponsors as well as workers who are associated
with the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games.
The following comments were made on the matter by the chief executive of the LOCOG, Paul Deighton, as he shared his views, “The hotel industry in London got behind the bid to stage the Games in the most extraordinary way and that support helped us across
the line. We always promised that we would not hold on to hotel rooms we didn't need but return them to the individual hotels at the beginning of 2012.We are now doing this and I hope that this enables the hotels to continue with their planning for this summer
as we all work together to stage a spectacular Games.”
As the LOCOG is cancelling its reservations, the fans of the Olympic Games who were having trouble finding accommodation in the capital of England in order to stay to watch the event now have the opportunity to facilitate themselves before all the bookings
are made.
The cancelations that the LOCOG will be making consists about 20 percent of the nights that it had initially reserved for itself.
Apart from that, the rooms that are going to be made available do not cater to a specific range but will be available in all price ranges. The customers will have a choice whether to buy themselves space in a five star hotel to opt for more economical accommodations
while enjoying the Olympic Games.
However, the prices of the hotel rooms in the tourism industry of the country have risen significantly and the availability of the rooms might not have the effect that is being anticipated. This is because the buyers might still consider the cost of the
rooms too high and look at some other alternatives that are available to them such as staying over with a friend or family.
The Olympic Games are scheduled to start from July 27.
